5 Reiki Principles

The 5 Reiki Principles, originally taught by Mikao Usui, aren’t just guidelines for Reiki practitioners—they’re spiritual tools for anyone seeking balance, growth, and inner peace. When practiced regularly, they help align your energy, raise your vibration, and bring deeper awareness to how you live and interact with the world.

1. Just for today, I will not be angry.

Anger is a lower vibrational emotion that blocks your energy flow. Releasing anger brings emotional clarity, allows healing to occur, and opens your heart to peace and compassion. It cultivates patience and helps you respond rather than react.

2. Just for today, I will not worry.

Worry is rooted in fear of the future. Letting go of worry fosters trust in the universe and strengthens your connection to the present moment. It also deepens your faith that you're guided and supported spiritually, which brings a sense of calm and surrender.

3. Just for today, I will be grateful.

Gratitude is a powerful attractor of abundance and joy. Spiritually, it shifts your focus from lack to abundance, inviting more blessings into your life. It opens your heart chakra and helps you align with love and grace.

4. Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Living and working with integrity keeps your energy field clean and aligned. Spiritually, this principle encourages authenticity, responsibility, and the honoring of your soul’s purpose. It’s about aligning with your truth and bringing your soul’s gifts into the world with honesty.

5. Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

Kindness fosters oneness, compassion, and a deeper connection to all of life. It dissolves separation and strengthens your spiritual connection to the divine in others. This principle supports heart-based living and contributes to collective healing.

Following the 5 Reiki Principles enriches your spirit, clears your energy, and greatly enhances your overall spiritual practice. I often find it beneficial to include them in my qigong and yoga routines, as they provide a deeper connection to my inner self. Reciting the principles on a daily basis helps to firmly remember them and to integrate their meanings into my life. Consider setting aside time each day to meditate on the principles that resonate most deeply with you. They serve as an important reminder of how to live with intention, presence, and heart-centered awareness.
